shadow edge detection

hi...
i face a problem during carry out the function of edge detection in Labview 7.1.
my assignment is need to determine the dimension of the vehicles passed in the video.
But, the vehicles in the video have the shadow that will influence my result of edge detection.
I have no idea how to solve it.
Please help me.

Normally, the first thing to do in every vision application is to remove all shadows, and other interferring artifacts. I understand that's a bit difficult in your application.


I'd try to do the edge detection in HSL color space, instead of RGB.
