serial read error

Hi Community,

I'm trying to connect my PDA (HP iPAQ hx2700) to a dotnode through a serial port connection using a Labview module and a basic serial write/read VI. When I run the program I get "Serial Port Read Error code: 8" It is connected through a cable that I got that has the PDA plug on one end and 4 wires on the other end, which I hooked up to the corresponding pins on a serial plug. I am able to read using the same setup and program when the program is run on my desktop computer, and have also gotten this to work in the past on the PDA. I have found no documentation for PDA error codes, can anyone help me out with what this code means and what I can do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tim.

I can't rely help you but I can tell you what I found out in my PDA application.
I got error 55 when init serial port. This error tells me that a network connection is active.
The reason for that was a active debug interface on my Win CE target.
In your case it could be some other process like active sync or so that might block
your serial device. Have a look ar that first.
With kind regards

TIm,
Turns out that Error 8 means that when you run the Serial Port Read, the VI shows that there is no connection with your computer. So try to verify your connection by perhapse running an ultra simple communication program. Let us know what you find.
