remote control of a RS-232 device on client side

Hello,
I just started to play around with LabVIEW 7.1 's remote control options. I was able to control a VI, which runs on the server PC and communicates to a RS-232 device connected to the com port of the server, from a client PC by simply calling the appropriate www address (obtained by LabVIEWs web publishing tool) in IE running on the client.
What I actually would like to do is the opposite. I would like to control a RS-232 device which is connected to a com port of the CLIENT by running a VI on the server PC without the need to have LabVIEW installed on the client. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance,
best regards,
Gabs

One option is to install VISA on the client and use NI-VISA Server. What this does is allow other computers to access VISA resources on a PC through a network connection. I've only done a little with this so I'm not sure about the performance. Go to MAX>Tools>NI-VISA>VISA Options and select VISA Server to configure it and the Security selection underneath that to set which systems are allowd remote access.
