record ECG during MRI scan

Hi all,

I wrote ECG recording program and tried to record ECG during fMRI scan but as soon MRI scan starts only noise can be seen in computer due noise induced by magnet.

Anybody has this kind of expereince or worte sigal proceessing program (filtering or spectrum analysis) to get ECG from Noise?

I will appreciate

Hey psk,

There are two approaches here. If you know enough about the noise, you can write a program to filter it out. For instance, LabVIEW 7.0 has filter express VIs. Secondly, you could look into shielding your equipment. Are you using a shielded terminal block, cable, and a DAQ board with an electronic shield?

Let us know some of the details if you want any help figuring out what we can do.

Best regards,

Thank you for your suggestion,

I have tried filtering but the frequency range of ECG signal (0.5-100 Hz) is exactly same to frequency range of MRI induced artifacts (<100Hz). It seems, very complex procedure will be requird.

Don't know much abt shielding..i will do research abt it.

thanks

Unfortunately, I do not know enough about how to filter this noise out in software. Using shielding may be the best way to go. However, one last suggestion is using a reference signal, however, this will require knowing the frequency of what we are trying to measure.

Check out the LabVIEW Lock-In Amplifier.
