real time processing of sensor using labview

hi,

I am working on digital compass sensor which gives me a different voltage reading at different angles, there are two outputs of the sensor they are OA and OB and both the outputs can be plotted as sinusoids when we rotate the sensor 360 degrees. I am using NI SCC-68 for data acquisition, and am using labview to save it for me as an *.lmv file, then i am processing the voltage readings using matlab to plot it and find the intersection point of both the plots OA and OB. Both the outputs have a phase difference, giving us two intersecting points which are then used to calculate angles whic is what i want!

I want to do real time processing, as in read the output from the sensor through DAQ directly without using labview and then display the result in angle (I have the conversion formula for that). Some of my friends suggested me to use Labwindows CVI for this as i can code the conversion using C. Is it possible to do this using Labview??

i have also attached the VI that i am using right now.

There is no reason you can't do the whole thing in LV. If you know the processing that needs to be done all you have to do is convert it into LV, and LV has a very complete set of math and signal processing operators.

You may find a google search on "matlab data acquisition" useful in solving this.

I agree with Mike.  This is an application would be easy to program in LabVIEW.  Is there any reason you don't want to?

Also, what type of analysis are you going to be doing?

hi,

My processing can be done in LV.. Hahn from NI helped me show how to make an executable file for the VI that can be run without starting LV, also its not necessary to have LV installed on comp to use it. Thats what was my concern, my users wont be rich enough to purchase LV... My project has to be as cheap as possible...also it was supposed to be run on any computer, with minimum requirements

I was trying to decide between LV and Labwindow/CVI...Which one to use?

and i guess LV is easier than CVI...:-)

Thanks a lot guys for your help

No Problem!  I am a big fan of LabVIEW over CVI because I am very visual.  Also, I have never been good with syntax, which LabVIEW eliminates.

Let us know how it goes!
