"Almost" Labview

Hello:

I am familiar with Labview and it may well be the best in its class.

For my particular application, however, cost of Labview software and I/O
card(s) may be a bit high. Can anyone suggest a program similar to Labview,
without many advanced features and that has a lower (1/2 or less) price?

Maybe this is not the right place to ask this advice, but I hope members on
this forum may know the answer. Thanks for all ideas.

I work for NI, so rather than telling you to go use product X, I'll tell
you to talk to your salesperson, or call the 800 number, concerning
discounts and product bundles.

Price may seem high at first... but the alternative would be like trying to decide between jungle drums and smoke signals...

My experience with LabVIEW's competitors has not been very good. One might only work with their daq boards. Another might not do GPIB. None of the others have has many add-ons that do the advanced analysis, vision, motion, database, internet, etc. You don't have to use NI hardware with LabVIEW and on occasion I have. However, most of the hardware competition knows that they have to provide LabVIEW drivers in order to sell to a bigger market. I can certainly see reasons for saving money in today's economy but instead of one of the other graphical programming languages, go with one of the text based ones. With Visual Basic or C++, you'd be able to get a lot more support than from the handfuls using the competition. Try and find news groups for the others and s
ee how welll attended they are.
