programatically specify automation refnum

Can I programatically specify the automation refnum input for the Automation Open Function?

GS,

it is not possible to programmitaclly specify the automation refnum, as the refnum determines the properties and functions we are trying to control.  Essentially this would programmatically program the entire VI.
