problem reading excel file!

I have to read some data from a excel file which contains stribngs and numbers. But I am not able to read. I tried using read characters from file.vi and read from spreadsheet file.vi but it doesn't work. Can anyone please help me.

Try to open the file in excel, select all the data by using cntrl+A, then copying by cntrl+c and then paste all in a text document(open the microsoft notepad).
in Labview - use "open spreadsheet" to open the txt file

Hi,
you can't read directly an Excel file using the LV file functions like if it was a text-based file.
You have to use Excel activeX methods and property; doing a search on the Dev.Exchange you will find several examples to import excel data from a spreadsheet to LV.

If you want to use Read from Spreadsheet on an Excel file, you can save it as a tab or comma separated text file. Otherwise, use ActiveX like Alberto suggests.
