parsing CAN messages

Hello,

I'm developing a real time application and I must read read ISO CAN message by using the serial ports (VISA).
Does anybody know how to parse the CAN byte stream from the COM port (a little example would be nice)?
The standard CAN vi's working just with NI-CAN.

Cheers

Hi Thomas,

as the (standart) CAN physical layers (e.g. ISO 11898-2 and ISO 11898-3) are not electrically compatible with serial signals (RS-232 or RS-485) you need some kind of CAN-Serial converter, if you want to read from a CAN network through the serial ports.
What kind of converter are you using?

Yes I know,

I'm using CANSTB (CAN to serial converter) from B & B electronic (http://www.bb-elec.com/product.asp?sku=canstb).
I just want to know how I can begin to parse the bytes from serial port. Should I use the Instr Assistant? But I don't know what he will produce and if I can use the parsing result on real time. I know that the Instr Assistant works just with the resources of the Windows machine but not e.g "[c]FP"

Cheers
