opening notepad file

Hi all,

I know how to get access to excel, word, etc. files from LabView. I have been trying to do the same with notepad.exe but I can´t find it between the "Automation Refnum" classes.
The thing is that I would like to lauch notepad (or wordpad) from a VI to display a text file so that the user can directly access to the desired data and make his own corrections if needed.

Thanks  in advance,

Enrique

Notepad.exe does not support ACTIVEX, therefore it will not appear in the automation refnum class.

You can't programatically control Notepad from LV, but anything you can view in Notepad should be really easy to do in LV.  Notepad is a simply simple text-viewing program.

I think controlling Notepad via ActiveX would be almost more complicated than just implementing something yourself to do it.

Just in case it's not clear: "Notepad files" are generally just plain old ASCII text files.  You can read them natively in LV.

Hope this helps

Shane.
Using LV 6.1 and 8.2.1 on W2k (SP4) and WXP (SP2)

You can open notepad from LabVIEW if you want, though.

Use the vi Communication->System Exec.vi to call notepad.exe via command line.

Use the 'System Exec.vi' with "notepad.exe <filename>" as command line. See attached image for an example.
