That's kind of a harsh statement against NI. VIs can sometimes be saved for
previous versions, and the original poster's question isn't hopeless.
Check out File -> Save With Options. There is a save for 6.0 option
available. Some structures clearly wont translate to previous versions; for
example the event structure is new to 6.1 and didn't exist in 6.0 so that
particular feature could never be backward compatible. However basic code
saves fine for previous versions.
Going back major releases (for example to 5.x) is indeed more of a
difficulty. I can understand the logic of not messing with a working
installed system, but I haven't used 5.x for new development in years.
There's so little call for 5.x anymore.
FYI - If you haven't checked out 6.1, it i
s lightyears ahead of 6.0.x with
the event structure, XML, activex, windows XP support, and so on. Other than
the expensive pricetag (and student/eval versions), its hardly worth
thinking about 6.0.x anymore.
