multi-instrument drivers

What's the best way to write a driver which uses many instruments in parallel?
(Replacing one instrument brand with another should be easy. Any advice?
i.e. Should all instruments be reset in one sub-vi?)

Hi Rinatya,

I assuming that you only what to drive one instrument type at a time, but wish to have the flexibility to change that instrument for another with the same capability either from the same manufacturer or a different manufacturer.

You could use IVI depending on whether the instrument falls into one of the following classes; Scope, DMM, FGen, DCPwr or Switch.

If it does, one method would be to use the VI Server and create a virtual instrument with a series of plugin VIs to handle the actual instrument type. Find attached an example of a VI Power Meter driver. (Ver 5.1.1), just unzip and place the folder in the \Instr.lib folder.

Also attached is an actual Power Meter Plugin. Place this in a folder under LabVIEW called Plug-ins.

Hope this may help
.
