limiting tab selection

I am creating a VI in which I would like to set which controls that you can tab through.  Is there a way to do this?  

I have played with the "Set Tabbing Order" but have not been able to remove controls that get selected when tabbing; I can only set the order.  I am also aware that I can hide the controls and they will be skipped in the tab sequence, but I would still like these controls to be visible on the front panel.

Right Click control ->Properties->Key Navigation Tab and then check the box to skip the control while tabbing.
