If it is a true Excel worksheet, read data using ActiveX.

I should note that the Read From Spreadsheet File VI will only work with delimited text files.  An actual xls or xlsx file will not be read by that VI.

It is a very common misconception.  We've been yelling at NI for years upon years about the poor naming of that VI.

If you are dealing with an actual Excel file and need help, there is an Excel Board thread over in the Breakpoint.  Or you could keep the conversation here and I'm sure someone will come along and help.
