labview email.

The application I am developing requires the integration of LabVIEW into a complex .NET WebService, which is responsible for user authorization, authentication and scheduling. Most of the control of the LabVIEW application is managed within the IIS service via VI Server methods and a few VI's loaded during IIS startup. RemotePanels are displayed within the ASPX pages using a user defined ASCX control.

To solve the problem of passing information from an IIS WebServer to the LabView WebServer, I created a CGI VI on the LabVIEW server which parses the parameters issued from the IIS initiated redirect. The CGI then publishes the requested VI after setting the passed parameters.

<quote>when i run the lv7.0 example SMTP vi, it always fail. why the SMTP email send vi doesnot ask me to input "user name" and "password"?
</quote>

Because traditionally SMTP did not require login informations. It was usual to allow anyone who knew the SMTP server address to just connect to it and send of whatever he wanted. Only POP3 required login, since there you could retrieve privat information meant to be read only by the targetted individual. Nowadays with Spam attempting to kill traditional email more and more, a lot of SMTP servers have been tightened up and require some sort of login if they are not on a tightly protected subnet themselves.

The login procedure for SMTP is an addition to the original standard, and there are actually more than one way to authenticate with SMTP. Some SMTP servers require you to first login using POP3 account authentification from the same computer before you are allowed to send your messages. Others use an extension to the SMTP protocol and here you have again several levels of security. The lowest is plain password and username which is basically of no real use on a non private network nowadays. Then there are several encryption variants some with challenge response. The LabVIEW SMTP VIs do NOT implement any of those authentification mechanismes.
I have posted some time ago some VIs here in the developer exchange which implement at least the most basic authentification scheme. For the more extensive authentification schemes you do need some specific encryption and hash algorithmes such as are available in the Crypto-G library from http://www.jyestudio.com/visecurity/. For its price this toolkit delivers a real good functionality, but you need to have some basic understanding of cryptography to make good use of it.
Implementing the actual SMTP authentification is still an exercise to do reading the relevant RFCs, but I won't be able to post specific code here.

My company uses an Enterprise anti-virus program that doesn't allow outgoing traffice to port 25 (SMTP)
... unless the port-blocking is temporarily disabled 🙂  (probably need to be a local admin for this VI to work 😉 )
