Hi,
I'm getting "The file name, Directory name,or volume label syntax is incorrrect" when I'm trying to open visaconf configuration settings.

when do you get this error? When you try to open the file or after you make the modifications.
(try opening the file using notepad and make the required changes.)
thanks
Ravi.

There are three ways to change the aliases:
1. In MAX, under Devices and Interfaces>>GPIB and give the name.
2. Locate the "visaconf.ini" file and change the contents.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\NIvisa
3. In MAX, from the toolbar go to Tools » NI-VISA » VISA Options. Under VISA options window select "Aliases".
If none of the above work that means there is a problem with VISA installation. You can download VISA 4.5 and VISA Runtime Engine 4.5 from here

Hello Kiranmayi,
It'll be helpful if you could explain your problem in detail. Are you connecting a GPIB device and it doesn't appear in MAX? If so, then how are you connecting the device, and what are the versions of VISA runtime and MAX on your PC?
Sorry if you happen to have given this information out previously on this thread, but it's gotten a tad too long to follow 🙂
Regards,
Vaibhav.
