how to study Labview effectively if I can not take a training course and

i'm required to study Labview by myself without participating any training program, and what I can access are the 5.1 version and the software LABVIEW VERSION 6.1, I'd like to know the effective way to learn it quickly!

There is tutorial here that you might want to try. Books on the subject are available here. There is the included tutorial with LabVIEW itself. LabVIEW also ships with a large number of example programs and even more is available here. Try one or more and especialy study the examples. And, if you get stuck on something and confused, post your question to this forum. Good luck.

Another method is to stay on top of this forum.

If you do not understand our answers to questions, post follow-ups.

Also, I would recomend you set yourself a goal that you want to achieve using LV. I'm thinking something that is not to difficult, but still challenging. Use the examples Dennis mentioned to figure out how to do the parts of your project.

Years ago I wanted to learn how to program in machine language. I set a goal of writting an app that would run on a main-frame that would capture ethernet packets, and save them to file (the world first sniffer program, I think).

It took a while but by the time I finished the app (along with it's sort and decode) I was macro literate.

The key is to make the goal something that you want.

Let us know if you
need help.

Hi, You might try searching the Info-Labview mailing list archives for
"study" "tutorial" etc on:
http://www.searchview.net/

As I recall, this topic came up sometime (again, its recurring) in 2002 and
there were a couple of really nice lists of study resources that were posted
by list members.

Cheers,
Mike Ashe
