how to send messages to a display(throw RS232)?

First of all, sorry if this is not the group to place my question (I
am quite newbie),also sorry about my english. This is what I want to
know. I need to send messages to a display throw RS232 , and I need to
read the input data from a gdb(generic database file). Is there any
program that allow me to do that? What do I need exactly? If I write a
program using C, I would need an sdk to read this file and send it to
the display using RS232.Is this true?
I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

I will assume you are devleoping in LabVIEW.

Search the examples shipped with LV and you will find an example under

Hardware I/O >>> Serial (or there-abouts)

These examples are ready to go once you select the correct port and settings.

Further question regarding the serial port should be posted to the "Serial" list.

Let us know if you have more questions.

You will need some sort of information defining the structure of the
file that you are wanting to read the data from. I'll be glad to help
you sort it out. What program is generating the database file that
contatins the data you want to display?

If you reply to me directly, it will speed things up as I only check
this list once a week or so.
