how do you get numbers out of udp string sent by C program

I'm new to LabVIEW 8.0.  How do you:

1) receive a udp string from a C/C++ program

2) get numbers out of it that are in the format: 32 bit unsigned int/ 8 bit unsigned int/ 8 bit unsigned int/ 8 bit unsigned int/ 8 bit unsigned int/ 32 bit unsigned int

I ran the udp receiver out of the udp.lib file written by NI.  I get garbage on the screen like a square,
