format string

I want to identify filename and extension using scan from string.vi .

When input string "yahoo.txt", "[%.].%s" worked well.

But, I don't know why "%s.%s" gave the error which like "x: %f" when x: 3.2.

Would you explain this trouble?

Why don't you use the "get file extension" form the advanced file palette?
