datasocket: multiple writer problem

The setup is the following:

I typed in "dstp:///knob" for URL. Selected publish and subscribe. And ran the datasocket server on computer A. Then I typed in the same URL in computer B and selected publish and subscribe. Didn't work. Computer B has a red light next to its control with an error message: "Error: Not permitted to write data item" Basically computer B becomes a subscriber only.

So I opened the datasocket server manager. I changed from localhost to everyhost in the "default writer" group. When I tried running it again, now the error message was, something like, "Error: Can't connect to the item, another writer already exits"

I noticed that if I try to predefine an item in the DSS manager, I hav
e the option to allow multiple writers. And it actually worked. It also works if I run the same setup in a single computer.

How can I change the setting so that multiple writers can control an object?

Thank you

Jaeho

Hello,

It seems like you answered your own question. In case you were looking for alternative ways for doing this, the only way to allow multiple writers is to configure it in the DSS manager.
