Hi,
I've ni-6024E and want to use the counters. I do not understand exactly what gate and source is. I've heard, that the direction bit can set to a normal DIO channel. But I've a sensor with two outputs which are 90° angle-moved for detecting the direction. Must I use two counters or can I use one counter with Source and Gate? Where is the difference between these channels?

The typical scenario is the Gate is used like an Enable line. Use it to start and stop the counter. Connect your event to the Source. Monitor the counter on "out" or whatver the other pin is called. If you have two outputs, given the typical scenario, I would use two counters. I bet the 6024 has two (or more). You may just want to tie the Gates so that they are always enabled.
