control system running at VxWorks 6.3 and LabVIEW RealTime Module

Hello.

I use a control system (not from NI) that runs at vxWorks 6.3

In the moment I use a win32-dll in my LabVIEW-application to communikate via Ethernet with my control system.

In the moment, I use the normal LabVIEW-version (not LabVIEW RealTime Module).

In the moment, my application is not able to run in realtime.

idea: Is it possible to create a RealTime application by using LabVIEW-Realtime Module and download the RealTime application with a runtime to

        my control system?

The Task-system of the control system should call the Labview-application in realtime

I would like to know, if there is a possibility to habe a realtime-communikation between my control and a LabVIEW application.

Is it possible to run a RealTime LabVIEW application with a controler (running at vxWorks 6.3) in a stand-alone system?

The LabVIEW Realtime Module includes a realtime OS. Dependent on the target system, the RT OS is VxWorks 6.3 with current LV RT versions.

What is the target system you are using? Is it a desktop PC?

You might want to take a look into the following white papers on ni.com:

Building a Real-Time System with NI Hardware and Software

Converting a Desktop PC into a Real-Time Target

This tutorial can also give you some valuable hints about using LV RT in your environment.

hope this helps,

Norbert

Hello Norbert,

my target is a IndraControl L65 PAC.

There are a lot of discriptions if you use a syste of National Instuments. My PAC ist not

from NI. This makes it difficult, because its not easy to get support for external systems.

see also:

This ist not a desktop PC.

For the visualisation (switching the Buttons for example) would like to create by a Browser or a Network Variable.

The visualisation does not have to be real-time capable.

Only the application should be real-time capable.

Currently, LV Real Time is only executable on targets which accept the NI version of VxWorks. That means that the LV Real Time is focused on NI hardware and i doubt that it will run on the PAC you are mentioning.

Nevertheless, NI is always interested in knowing about requests like this so i suggest to contact your local NI representative in case you have similar interests.

thanks,

Norbert

Thank you for your answer.

I`ve got in touch with a support engineer of NI a few days ago.

He also said, that LabVIEW realtime is only available for NI products.

anyway, when I use the same vxworks version like NI, why It can not run with the PAC system I am using?

NI made several changes to VxWorks. But those changes are in such extend that NI cannot support a different version of VxWorks even if the version number is the same.

I think I understand what you mean.

Althougt I have the same version of vxworks like NI, it will not work because NI made changes in vxworks?

But I don't think that NI is able to make changes in the operating system.

I could only be that there is not a runtime available for my PAC system, I think

Your name is Norbert, so I think you are from gemany.
