cannot use formula in LabVIEW 8.5 library error

I'm not really familiar with the behaviors you are seeing.  Could you show me a screenshot of the empty square box and the pale function details.

I attached the file as a .pdf.  In the bottom left corner you will see two functions.  The empty square box is the formula function and next to it is the "Time Domain Math" function that is part of the same menu that you access the Formula function from.

One other thing is that I created the .vi using a different LabVIEW installation.  I think it as a Professional Dev. System, but I don't know the version # of that installation.  Not sure if this is relevant.  Guess it could be if it was later than 8.5 right?

If you double click on the formula VIs do you still get a pop up dialog?  And what options do you see when you right click?  Is there a re-link option?

I get nothing when I double-click.  When I right-click, I get some options - most significant are one to open the relevant functions palette, and one to replace it with something else.  There is no "relink" option.  I think it treats like a function and not a VI.

Still looks like a version problem.  I attempted to duplicate your observations by creating a vi using the formula vi. and then worked with NI help-desk to de-activate my LV8.5.1PDS and generate a LV8.5.1BASE activation key.

License manager show an activated BASE dev system however, the splash screen still showed "Licensed for Pro..."

I was unable to duplicate your observations AND I was able to use the Point-by-Point.vi that is "not in base package"  I concluded that my attempts to downgrade to Base dev was not effective. (But mega thanks to customer support for the attempts)

Next step:  Post the actual code and  if I can open the vi "normally" we'll be certain its related to your install.  Then (didn't you say you had access to a FDS?) 

Also, Here is a vi that you should not be able to run.  Do the other functions appear similar to the formula vi?
