browsing for LabVIEW OPC server items using generic OPC client

Hi,

I am trying to you my LabVIEW application as an OPC server abd connect to it from a generic OPC client. I uderstand that Shared Variable Engine is an OPC 3.0 compliant server. i have installed Matrikon OPC Explorer and tried to connect to some shared variables on my local machine.

the proble is that the OPC Explorer is unable to display the hierarchical structure of the Shared Variable Engine Library. I cannot browse to the desired variable. however, if i type in the exact path and add it to the group, it works, the item can be validated and the OPC explorer shows the correct value.

Can anyone help me set up the SVE or anything in LabVIEW so i will be able to see the OPC folders and items within Shared Variable Engine?

Regards,

Martin

Martin,

While the shared variable engine has passed all tests from the OPC Foundation Test Suite locally, this browsing problem is one that was not caught and that we have been made aware of. This problem only seems to be occurring on certain OPC explorers, though. Engineering is currently investigating this behavior (bug report #3R9AHL00) and will hopefully have this fixed in a future release of LabVIEW. Unfortunately, for now, the only workaround is to specify variable paths explicitly or to use an OPC explorer in which this problem is not manifesting itself (I believe that both the Kepware Quick Connect and the OPC Foundation OPC 3 Sample clients can browse the shared variable engine locally).
