blue dropdown boxes, function constants?

Hello.

I am new to labview and I'm starting to get a hang of things but I still do not understand these blue dropdown boxes that I am seeing everywhere. They seem to be cases but I thought I saw somewhere that they are constants of some sort. What are they and How are they used ??
