Will Labview work on any version of XP

Wondering if Labview will work on any version of XP. Home Edition? Media Center Edition. I'm trying to determine if XP Professional is worth the extra cost or if it's not necessary. This is for a government purchase so cost isn't really an issue any benefits to professional over the others?

I know LabVIEW will work on both Home and Pro, with no real differences, since I've used it on both, but the operating systems themselves are very different.

Pro is an updated version of 2000 with a pretty face on it, while home is more or less an updated version of 98. For reliability and better features, go with Pro if money isn't an issue...

LV definitely works with XP home.
I'm not sure how much media center differs from regular XP, but if it is full XP, it should probably work. I think the one exception is XP 64 bit. For that, I think many things have to be rewritten before they can work.
If I remember correctly, the main advantages of pro are in networking management. If the computer is a stand-alone computer I don't think there should be any problem with home.

As far as I know, both home and pro share the same codebase (which is based on win2k), so home isn't just an upgraded 98 (although I think pro is supposed to be more stable). You can do a google search to get more details about the differences.

I think home is still more based off of 98 than 2000...

"It's also worth mentioning that Home Edition will support upgrades from Windows 98, 98 SE, and Millennium Edition (Me), but not from Windows 95, NT 4.0 Workstation, or Windows 2000 Professional. You can upgrade from Windows 98, 98 SE, Millennium Edition (Me), Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, or Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional."

It won't support upgrades from 2000 pro, but it will from 98... I know this isn't the best thing to base it off of, but the reason I said it in the first place was that I was told that by a prof in an operating systems class... I didn't do a whole lot of research into it myself, so I could be wrong in saying that...

I think the reason why home won't upgrade from NT or 2000 is that the home version of WinXP doesn't support file encryption, something which 2000 and NT does.

The codebase for XP home and PRO is the same. There's a 2-byte patch which was detailed in a german computer magazine which turned on 80% of the missing "pro" functions on a "home" installation CD (Like file permissions and so on). It simply fooled the installer into believing that a PRO version was going to be installed.

It's also well known that software RAID can be activated on the home version by "patching" a system file.

Hope this helps

Shane.

Yes, the FAQ from that site clearly states that "Technically, Windows XP is the next version of Windows 2000, ... It is based on the Windows Engine, an update to the Windows NT/2000 kernel".
An important point made there is that home does not support multiple processors, something which will affect certain LV apps, which can take advantage of this (although I doubt this is relevant for the original poster).
