Why won't LabVIEW let me wire a 2-dim string array to an output terminal?

LabVIEW 8.0 won't allow me to wire a 2-dimensional array of strings to an output terminal.  I don't remember this limitation in earlier versions.  Has this always been the case?  What are limitations on terminal data types?

Thanks,
Scott

I have never heard of that kind of limitation... I assume you are not doing it correctly... could you post a screenshot of your code (because I don't have LabVIEW 8, but just 7.1..)

Trying to help...

I'm trying to connect a front panel array (named OutputArray) to one of the output terminals.

Attached is the front panel screen shot.

Thanks,

Scott

Well... my best guess is that this OutputArray is already connected to another terminal, this is the only explanation I can think of...

If not, post the VI, hopefully somebody else will come up with LV 8 and tell you what's wrong.

Without seeing what you are trying to connect on the block diagram, it's about impossible to say with any certainty but my guess is that you aren't really creating a 2D array. On the block diagram, right click on the output you want to connect and select "Create>Indicator". Go to the diagram and see what the dimension size really is. You have some for loops hidden by the image of the front panel and you might actually be creating a 3D array as something is auto-indexed out of the for loop.

Sorry ... my bad.  I messed up and already had that terminal connected.  Rookie mistake from a veteran programmer ..  AAAAARRK. Smiley Tongue

😄 don't worry we've all been through that kind of mistakes when we were beginners... and even confirmed developpers happen to spend a bunch of hours on silly mistakes 😉
