Dear Tomouk,
The DAQ Assistant Express VI is provide/installed with the driver NI-DAQmx.
NI-DAQmx is a free drivers that you need when you want to use/communicate with a multifunction DAQ board.
You can download this driver under "Driver Multifunction DAQ"
When you want more informations about Multifunction DAQ, you can see the follow link:

@Tomouk wrote:Hi,Im probably being quite silly here but i have LabView 8.0 evaluation copy, im currently attempting a project to do with data acquisition, analysis, storage and graphical representation etc. I have looked at some online tutorials and in all of them it starts off with the DAQ assistant under input section in the functions palette. I cant see that DAQ assistant therfore cannot try out the basic exercises. The tutorial said something about a NI-DAQmx API is that what i need or does the evaluation copy not include it or what? Any help would be much appreciated.Cheers,Tom Betts

Hello Monica,
The answer is YES, Your are able to acquire Data with a DAQ device and the LabVIEW Professional Development Version.
But you need to install the Drivers of your USB or PCI device.
The last driver (for National Instruments Data Acquisiton devices) is the NI-DAQmx 8.7.1 and you will find it under Drivers and Update.
