Where are controls in front panel placed???

Ok, boys, it's the time to face a very annoying problem and, and by opposing, to end it!!

What is the (il)logical algorithm by means of which Labview decides where to place
controls in the front panels (e.g when you create a new one in the block diagram)??

I always obtain to have them the farthest I can from the front-panel-area I am really working
within... When you develop a quite articolated VI this could come in a very pestering and
displeasing thing!!

What can I do? Can I crop the front-panel, in order to force new control to be placed within
a smaller area? Or can I select a point where new controls are placed by default? I'm quite
sure there must be a solution to this willy problem...

Tnx a lot!

Mike,

This was discussed recently in another context. Search for my thread on Cosmetic Suggestions.

The (untested) hypothesis was that the location on the front panel is approximately the same displacement from the panel origin as the terminal location is displaced from the origin of the block diagram. So if you create a control at (1500,800) on a fairly large diagram, the control on the front panel will be that far to the right and down from the front panel origin. At this point no one has offered a work around.

It's getting better!

The LabVIEW Champions bitched about the previous behaviour where it used to create the new ones below wherever that last one was created. Before long you had to scroll down the FP to find your control.

This was changed in recent version and the news rules have not been revealed (yet) but it is better. ( "She turned me into a newt."  "A newt?"  "I got better.")

If you double-click on a terminal (using the selection tool) LV will take you to the new control.

I am not sure what haapens if the diagram is large since I avoid large diagrams like the plague.
