Waveform to string conversion

I am trying to convert a sound waveform to a string.  Any ideas how?

Is the information stored in points from a DAQ??  ie sample rates at a known freq??

Here's a super-simple way to get convert a waveform to a string.  Not sure if this is what you're after, but it's a starting point.  Take a look and tell us what you need.
