Voice recognition without using Microsoft API

I would like to perform a simple application of switching on an led on the front panel using a voice command in LV 2012. What are the toolkits or functions that i could use so i could learn the words into labview and based on the pattern recognition, activate the led instead of using microsoft speech recognition?

LVSpeak would be a good place to start (It may use the Windows API under the hood) should give you some examples
