VISA Server 20.0 prevent LV RT from booting

Hi!

I've recently realized that my company was hiding storing some NI hardware for a while now and not using it when we could definitely have a use of it hurts me.

Here is my hardware:

  • Chassis NI PXIe-1062Q
  • Controller NI PXIe-8101 (not supported anymore by labview)
  • RS485/422 and RS432 NI PXI-8433/4 & 8432/4
  • CAN interface NI PXI-8512
  • DAQ PXIe-6361 + BNC 2110

(+ many other cool stuff irrelevant here)

Connecting everything together and booting it was not working, a lot of drivers incompatible between my host computer and the RT target.
I had to update the RT target to labview RT20 (my current working version) and then ... to update pretty much all the drivers as well.

And then it was not booting anymore, stopping and rebooting after "NI VISA server 19.5.0 succesfully started"

The strange thing is that I'm actually trying to install v20.0.0 and not 19.5 ...

I've uninstalled only the VISA server and it works.

I have 2 questions:

  • What would make the VISA server preventing booting on the RT target? (drivers incompability, network issues, firewalls ... ?)
  • I actually don't really know to which extent VISA server is needed, what is its purpose exactly?
I couldn't find much info about it except the description given by MAX which doesn't help much tbh:

If you have any clues/advices/answers on these, I'll take them 🙂

Thanks in advance,

Vinny.
