VI Server

Hi
What is VI server ? Is it just like calling a sub vi and controlling its properties from the main VI (high level Vi).
Why and where we used VI server?
What are its advantage ?

Please reply as soon as possible.
it is very urgent for me to know all these.

that may help you.

Maybe you should read the help files from LabVIEW.

Try that and then have a look at some examples (also shipped with LabVIEW).

If you don't have LV installed or available then it's going to be really hard to explain it to you.

The simple version is that it's like programatically accessing properties and methods of LV objects from anywhere within LV.

Of course it's more detailed than that, but to learn properly, you should read the help and study the examples.

Hi,

Sorry about that, I would have thought the first two links , 'Calling a VI by reference' and 'Cloning Front Panel....' should go a long way to explaining things plus the document supplied by ii.

But basically, it a way of controlling a VI dynamically, thats is loading into memory, setting front panel settings, running the VI, obtaining values from the VI, and so on.

One advantage is the VI doesn't have to be in memory until its required and then it can be unloaded when it finished with.

Hope this helps.
