the issue was communicated to the NI support.

Not sure about the equal/not-equal sign now. In the correct case, there is about 1000 loops the while-cycle runs and then ends due to the added condition.

I support your observation about the out-of-constraints results.

I hope there is another solution than "please, mis-place your x_start a bit. the guessed value is too perfect" rofl

The hanging behavior of the Unconstrained Nonlinear Optimization VI was tracked by CAR 401689 has been fixed in LabVIEW 2015. Under certain conditions we used to get into an infinite loop in the VI, as you had seen in your program. There are now good checks in place to make sure that does not happen!
