Uninstaller Error when trying to change National Instruments software

Hi Friends,

From past few days I am facing some strange problem. I am unable to run labview executables in my machine. The error message I am seeing is Executable version doesn't(7.1.1) doesn't match with resource file (7.1) check your configuration. I searched in forums and found that the Run time engine 7.1  needs to be repaired to correct this issue.

Surprisingly when tried repair from control panel I am seeing a uninstaller error message that the National Instruments software may have been already removed would u like to remove from Add/Remove programs list.

Can any body guide me to resolve this issue. Suggest if there is any other way to repair the runtime engine other than from control panel.

Regards,
Siddu

Hi Siddhu,

The KnowledgeBase the discussion forum referenced is Executable Version (7.1.1) Doesn't Match Resource File (7.1). The next logical step to solve this problem is to uninstall LabVIEW 7.1.1 and reinstall. This will reinstall the Run-Time Engine and most likely fix the problem.

If you have the LabVIEW Standard Service Program (SSP), you can create a service request and call NI for one-on-one support with an Applications Engineer.

I've used this procedure to mitigate this particular issue, however, it is necessary to reinstall and/or repair 7.11 rt engine each time a distribution (build application and create installer) is generated as things get broken each time .  This is particularly clunky.  The problem arose after I installed VISA support for a USB DMM.  I can probably uninstall the support but then I won't be able to do any work on DMM utility software until I reinstall the VISA support.  Is there any other way around this?

Hi Siddhu,

I am sorry for the limitation that you are running into here. As mentioned in the KnowledgeBase article that Michael referenced, this issue has been fixed in later versions of LabVIEW.

To work around the issue, you should be able to do one of the following:

1) Remove the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1.1 and install the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1 instead. This way, when you develop applications in LabVIEW 7.1 and include the Run-Time Engine with your executables you should not encounter the problem that you are seeing.

2) Do not choose to include the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine with your LabVIEW executables. Instead, separately install the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 7.1 or 7.1.1 (both will support LabVIEW 7.1 applications) on your deployment machine(s). This should be the best method for avoiding the error that you are seeing, though it does mean that you will have to run two installers manually on your deployment machine(s).

Please let me know if you have any additional issues, and I am glad to help. I am sure that we can work together to get your application up and running.
