Is anyone using a USB C to RS-232 serial cable? If so what cable are you using? I have several instruments I built many many years ago that use the NI USB-232 cable for communication. These systems need a computer upgrade. I was about to order a new laptop when I noticed it only had USB C ports. Is there an option for USB C to serial or do I need to make sure the laptop has standard USB ports?
Thank you

I mean, if you're going to use USB there are plenty of hubs that plug in with USB C but have several USB A ports. Probably just get one that has the option for external power and that'll be good enough. It doesn't sound like you need this to be extremely rugged.

USB C and USB A are protocol compatible, just a different connector in the context of RS232 adapter needs. There seem to be several USB C to RS232 cables in the market but the reliability of the USB to RS232 chip and driver is questionable especially for industrial needs.
On the other hand, if you got NI-USB-232, get a USB C to USB A female adapter and you're good. I have noticed Startech products are reputed, and they have a USB C - RS232 cable - USB C to Serial Adapter Cable with COM Port Retention - 16" (40cm) USB Type C to RS232 (DB9) Serial
