Type Def updating

In LabView 6.1, I am using a typedef that contains only a ring control. I want to use it in various places to select processing options. When I add it to the block diagram as a constant, it does not update when the typedef changes. If I put it on the front panel, the update behavior depends on whether it is a typedef or a strict typedef. Typedef allows me to select autoupdate, but doesn't update. A strict typedef allows manual update, but I can't select automatic. I think this is a LabView bug.

This is not a bug. Application not 159 (LabVIEW Custom Controls, Indicators, and Type Definitions) which is part of the shipping documentation specifically states that changing ring control strings does not cause the definitions to change. If you want automatic updates, make the control a strict type def. You can't select automatic because the updates are always automatic.
