I have a Tekscan pressure measurement system and Labview software installed on the same PC. I want my Tekscan software to start recording the video as soon as I click the start button in Labview. So basically I want Labview to indirectly trigger a button in Teskcan. Is that possible? If yes, how?

Tekscan SDK (for LabVIEW, too - look at the picture of the laptop!).
Probably the hardest thing to do is to figure out HOW you want to take the readings. Once you have that in place, you can translate that into any programming language.

Thanks.
(SDK is a very expensive option in my case).
Oh, sorry about that. I'm not familiar with this equipment. If you can find the programmer's guide (it looks like the user manual doesn't mention anything about programming) and if you can describe how you would do it manually, we could make some headway here.

Manually I would just click on the start record button in Labview, then minimise this window, and then click the start record button in Tekscan's software window. I just need the two clicks on start buttons to be simultaneous.

Sorry I have to ask all these questions, but I need to have a clear understanding of what you are trying to do. Is this how you always do it, or have you never done this manually before and is this just what you think should happen?
Now would also be a good time to dig up the documents I mentioned. Without them, we can't really do anything.

I don't understand what documents are you referring to. We don't have any programmer's guide and I am a mechanical engineer so I do not have any expertise in programming. Could you please elaborate what documents I need to look into.
And yes, this is the first time I am doing an experiment where I need to trigger the start button of both Tekscan and Labview simultaneosuly. Thus, I have no idea how to do it and I'm trying to figure out a way.
Thanks.

Hi, Jasnoor:
The documents I am referring to are the Tekscan user manual and/or programmer's guide. Since I know nothing of the actual equipment, I have no idea whether or not a programmer's guide actually exists, but in any case, in order to have ANY chance of making this work, you will need to find the document that has commands to control this instrument.
Furthermore, I'm not sure how you were going to accomplish programming the instrument with the LabVIEW programming language without any knowledge of programming in LabVIEW - or any other language - in the first place. Therefore, my recommendation would be to either find someone in the shop that can do this for you, or contract the work out to a vendor. This will probably be cheaper than you spending your engineering hours trying to learn how to program in LabVIEW. Besides, you can always blame the vendor and make them fix it if it's not working correctly. 😉

I know this thread is a bit stale, but wanted to let you know about an option to help with this for the future if it comes up again. There is a new package on the NI Tools Network that ties into the Tekscan hardware making it very easy to collect data and synchronize it with any other data you take in LabVIEW.
