Timed loop behavior for software trigger timing

Hopefully my description is precise enough to avoid the need for a wiring example to demonstrate the question. Given a timed loop with a software triggered timing source (one iteration per trigger), and a software triggered timing source firing at some frequency, how does a timed loop behave if its iteration time is greater than the period of the software trigger? Does it simply iterate continuously because it's "behind", or does some timing-related error occur? Thanks for any help you can provide.

You can select this behavior.

Right click Configure Timed Loop. Tag\untag Dismiss missed periods and Maintain original phase. There's help on those options.
