Sub VIs

Hello. I am quite new to LabView.

How do I make a sub-VI as a black box - i.e.. users cannot access the
subs, only sees it as an icon with connectors?

Thanks for your help.

You can save the subVI(s) that you don't want to allow access without
diagrams, or with the diagrams password protected -- assuming you have
version 5 or greater. Use the Save with Options... File menu item.

A word of advice, saving without diagrams produces the smallest file, but
it means that the VI only works with compatible versions of LV because
LV no longer has access to the code to recompile it. Saving with
passwords allows LV to have access to the code to compile for version
and platform changes, but doesn't allow for diagram editing or viewing
unless given the password.

Use passwords wisely. If others will benefit from the subVI, the
y may
benefit much much more by having the ability to modify it to suite
their needs. You can place your name or usage information in the
VI description.

Also, users will still be able to double-click the icon to view the panel,
it is sort of the expanded version of the icon/connector.

When saving your vi's, use the "Save with options". There you can save your vi with no block diagrams or you can password protect the block diagram, thereby preventing anyone access to the source code.Hope this helps somewhat.Craig
