Source Control with Telelogic Synergy

I know that LabVIEW supports Synergy as a source control option, but has anyone actually used it and can comment on the usability and features it enables.  I currently have LabVIEW configured to use source control with ClearCase and am finding that the only real useful feature is the check in/check out function.  There is a round about way to compare previous versions of a VI.

What features version control features are effectively integrated with the source control features when using Synergy (ie, Diff, merge, etc)?

Thanks,

Jenny

Jenny,

I'm afraid that I'm not posting to answer your question but to ask if you've gotten any answers anywhere else.  I just got a note from our IT dept, in response to a request for an SVN server, that we have/use Telelogic Synergy (and that Open Source software is discouraged).

Have you used Synergy yet?  What have you discovered?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jenny,

Have you seen this knowledge base article from our website?

Can LabVIEW's Source Control Be Used With Telelogic Synergy CM?

Jim,

Unfortunately I haven't gotten to use it, we haven't implemented use of Synergy yet, it is very slowly being deployed and I haven't had a chance to work on a project that used it yet.

Let me know what you find out.  I have been using ClearCase which is officially supported, but in my opinion doesn't fully integrate.  It would be interesting to find out how well the "unofficially supported tool" is integrated with LabVIEW.

How does that document (dated 10/23/2006) align with Which Third-Party Source Control Providers Can I Use with LabVIEW 8.0 and later? (dated 10/16/2008)?

Jenny,

I just triggered the IT process whereby we get software installed on our PCs, so I should have Synergy by the end of next week (or not).  I fear that this is not going to be as fun as SVN.

The Knowledgebase Article I listed is still current.  The other article is more recently updated because we added "Microsoft Team System" to the list.  As is indicated in that document, Synergy works and is compatitble but it is not supported and no feature list can be guaranteed to work.  Telelogic would be able to provide you a more complete answer.
