Sometimes shared variables don't work

I have some test systems that are built around the NI PXI chassis.  These test systems are on our network so that they can be moved around the building and controlled by different users.  Occasionally, the IP address of the PXI chassis changes and I have to update the lvproj with the new address.  When I do this, there seems to be some disconnect that happens between the controlling VI under My Computer and the shared variables used in the RT system.  Is there some way to automatically update these, instead of going into the controlling VI and updating each one by hand?
