They cancelled, understandably, because of the COVID-19 issue. Since they waited until the last minute to tell me, there's no way I'm going to be able to reschedule with ANYone by the end of April, which is when my cert expires.
NI ends their agreement with the test center at the end of April. So does NI even offer the CLD-R in-house?

Somewhat related, I will need to take the CLA-R come September (my current position didn't really allow for me to work on getting points). So, hopefully NI is coming up with an online recert exam.

I signed up with NI for CLD-R test. Today, I got an email stating that there will be online tests (through another testing agency?) Starting May 1. They won't extend my CLD a few days, so it will be suspended for a couple of days. Even though it's just a few days, it still seems a bit of a cheap shot that it gets suspended through no fault of my own.

Not sure how up to date this information is...
AFAIK, Certifications expire after 4 years (EDIT: for CLA, 3 years for CLD), but you can recertify within one year after that. You won't have the status during that period though. So there's a 5 year period to recertify. Not sure if you're there already.
EDIT: recertification-policy-and-process. There is a 1 year "suspended' status...
That is in 'normal' times. They might loosen the rules iff they are aware.
Over here we can only take exams online since recently. Not sure if there's an online CLD-R. EDIT: got to read better...
Gathering recertification points is another option. One way to get recertification points is to take online courses. Strangely enough, you get CLA recertification points if you take the online CLD prep course. You might still be able to recertify by points by doing a bunch of courses. Hacking the system...
And, AFAIK, you could make a CLD exam for points or make up tons of CLAD questions.
EDIT (last one): You can't recertify by points once you're suspended\expired though.

A response from an NI Certification engineer: https://forums.ni.com/t5/Certification/Take-exam-from-Remote/m-p/4034727#M4135

But that's about CLA and CLD, not CLA-R and CLD-R?

Initially I got a response from the NI Cert Board that it was "tough luck" but your cert will be suspended until you can take the online test, but when I posited such scenarios as:
They quickly did an about face and granted me a grace period where my cert would still be active until I could schedule a test (time frame reasonable). I suspect that it was just an oops because they have already done so many things to help us that it was out of character for them not to help in this way, too.
I'm guessing others in my predicament will have similar outcomes.
