SSI USB

Ok, I have been using this SSI to RS232 Display controller for a while now. All has been fine. I purchased the SSI-WD-RS232 model from IDS (http://ssi.xtreemhost.com). Now I need some help.

This controller has 2 available channels. However, it can only read on channel at a time (supports only one SSI sensor). The company said the firmware currently does not support 2 sensors. However, I read in the manual that the firmware is distributed with the OEM versions.

Question: Has anyone modified this controller's firmware to read 2 sensors simultaneously? If so, is this something you can share?

Thanks for your help!

Another solution would be using Beckhoff SSI Inputs via Ethercat . The inputs are described here:http://www.beckhoff.com/english/ethercat/el5001.htm?id=693177420256 Our LabVIEW Twincat library can be used easily to integrate the Beckhoff hardware in LabVIEW:www.ackermann-automation.de/tcadslv.htm

I have recently stumbled across a USB SSI encoder interface that operates very well. Operation is very simple, simply send a single character to it to read back position.

They do a single channel and 4 channel version:

Dear SSK,

Based on your experience, I plan to use the Deva SSI PCI interface. However, in my application I need to synchronise the SSI decoding with data acquisition using NI-6229 card. Do you know if there is any way to synchronise them using RTSI connection ?

I have only used them as a straight forward encoder interface, I think there is some additional IO on board.

The manual is available for download at http://www.deva.co.uk/manuals/Deva001%20Manual%20V22.pdf
