SCPI communication error

The instrument reports [No errors in queue].  USB SCPI is ON.  I don't know where to change the Windows USB power shut down - and I do not have Admin priv.  But it always hangs up on the VISA read immediately following the VISA write of command "SYST:ERROR?".  The error is occurring in "Error Query.vi" which is a sub-VI of Reset.vi.  As mentioned, this is in the Agilent 3446X driver example downloaded from NI.

I believe the main issue is Keysight's USB drivers.  I have seen strange issues with my 34461A when using USB as well.

Just another reason I avoid USB as much as possible.  Ethernet is my bus of choice for communicating with instruments.

Agreed.  It's a shame since it's so convenient, but I won't trust USB for mission-critical test systems.

EDIT:  Now that I think about it though, I do use a few of those NI USB-GPIB-HS+ adapters that are technically USB at their core and they seem pretty reliable.  Maybe that's why they have become crazy expensive???

I think the main issue might be the USB to Serial drivers hidden inside many instruments.  Even the good FTDI drivers can be flaky if not implemented correctly.

Yeah, I was taking the easy route because I am just taking some baseline measurements at my desk.
