Running a LabView application from a network drive

Can I install a LabView application on a network drive to allow others to use that application without having to install it on their machine?

Yes and No.

You can have the executable you created located on the network drive.  But each user will need to have the LabVIEW runtime enginer (and other run-times such as VISA) installed on their machine to be able to run the executable.

Thanks for the info, Ravens Fan and jcarmody...I've never done anything as a web service before. Is there anything special I need to know or are there some help files or something else that are pretty straight forward?

After reading about web services I'm afraid that is a little outside of my expertise plus I'm using 8.5 and I don't know if I can upgrade before I need to have this program ready. Looks like I'm back to installing the RTE for each user...ugh.

May I ask what you cannot figure out about publishing your VI?

Maybe we can help you out (thats kind of why we're here Smiley clignant de l'œil )

Please look at the reply gievn by Ravens Fan. LabVIEW, even just Run-Time, is distributed with license and in order to run LabVIEW on a local machine, at least a license for installing the LabVIEW Run-Time is required. So the answer is that you can install it on a network drive but for other users to be able to use it on their local machines they must at least have the license for LabVIEW Run-Time. Hope this helps!

Cory K, I guess my first question would be whether or not this could be done with LV 8.5 since what I have read seems to highlight this feature in LV 8.6 and I can't find very much information for previous versions. I tried to view some example code but they were version 8.6.
