Running LabVIEW Real time on one or more Linux Real Time environments

Good morning

As working in a shientific institution that instructs upcomming engineers, l'd like to communicate my interest in the development of LabVIEW for embeded deterministic Linux applications, similar to what National Instruments offers for Windows.

Are there any plans in that direction? and if not I 'd like to encourage to think about it.

What possibilities are there today? (using non-National Instruments tools and ... combined with LabVIEW features)

Hello Dieter,

unfortunately, there are currently no plans to support Linux either as a Realtime target or as a development platform for the LabView Realtime Module.

As for external tools, a Google search for "Labview RTAI" turns up some interesting hits.

If you are just interested to run LV code on LINUX machine, another option is to use the LabVIEW Embedded Module. This module can convert you LV code into C and you can transfer and compile in other platforms. It is not as easy to work as RT, but maybe this would be sufficient for your research. If you just want to run LabVIEW on Linux, you can simply install LabVIEW for Linux. There is also a run time engine for Linux, but you need a Linux development version to make an executable.


There are vi's to communicate with RTLinux, but you still need to make the real time code in C, C++ or whatever. Google "RTLinux Labview" will give some information.
