Unfortunately, there isn't any answer I'd feel like marking as a solution to my initial specific question.
As for Kudos, I musts admit I'm not very familiar with their use (I read couple of post on the argument, though). They are not really "thanks" as you claim, are they? If they were, I would have to give kudo to anyone that answered, because I did thank them: no one was rude and all tried to help (with variable level of success)...

Not all posts have an answer, don't feel obligated to mark a post as an answer, it is a courtesy. As for kudos it's real easy, to the left of each post there is a number showing how many kudos that post has from users. Each user can only kudo a post once. Clicking on the start next to the number adds a kudo to the post.
It's basically a "like" system. Users have a total number of posts, and total number of kudos for their avatar, and a total number of posts that they were the solution for. This helps users identify experienced users on the forum, and is seen as a way of thanking them.

Ah Ha, Then definately keep the thread going. When you DO find a solution that meets your needs feel free to write a short summary of your approach and mark your summary! The knowledge you gained from forum participation will be that much easier for the next person to find.

Kudos are a personal preference type of thing- I admit I don't mind getting them or giving them if the post made me either "Think a new thought" or Smile. But, I seldom miss reading a post that makes the top kudosed posts last 30 days list (You CAN learn some interesting things that way) Kudos as you see fit
