Remote Panel Connection timeout problem

Hi,

I've set the control time limit for a remote panel connection to 300 sec. When a remote user connects and requests control, everything works fine. When another user connects and requests control, the timer starts counting down (which I can see in the Remote panel connection manager). The problem is that it counts down from 300 sec. to zero and then starts counting down from 1 hour and control isn't transfered to the 2nd user who requests it even though the 1st user should have timed out. This carries on indefinitely and the 2nd user can't connect because the 1st user never actually times out, the control time remaining just keeps counting down from 1 hour over and over again,

Anyone seen this before?

Oh, and I should also mention that I changed my computer name a while ago but in the bottom left corner of the vi, the "<V> server" shows the old name - if anyone knows how to change the server name, that might solve the timeout problem,

What you're seeing has me stumped.... what version of LabVIEW are you running?

I'm running LabVIEW 8. Is there any way that the timeout settings are wrong - I have it set to timeout after 300 sec but do you have to set anything to force labview to transfer control? It shows in the remote panel connection manager that there are other computers waiting for control.

Do you have many VIs in your "Visible VIs" list (Tools>>Options>>Web Server: Visible VIs)? When you set the Control Time Limit you can set it on a per vi basis. Make sure you have a "*" (no quotes) or the vi of interest in your Visible VIs list and that you have configured the control time limit for that vi. Also, try changing it to something like 5 seconds and see if you then get the hour roll over.

Have you tried this on other computers? Has this ever worked for you?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. I changed computers and all vi's are set to being visible (* under the visible vi's list) and I still get this problem. One other thing is that when I check the control time remaining on the first computer after it should have timed out, it says that it had indeed timed out but I can still control the vi from first computer and the 2nd computer is still waiting for control. Also, I've never had it working properly with control being switched so this problem didn't arise suddenly.

I have 8.0.1 and I changed the timeout limit to 20 sec. It seemed to behave correctly for me. I used the remote front panel connection manager to monitor my connections and when I had another user request try to take control, I saw the countdown, and then the transfer of contro. Try installing the 8.0.1 patch to see if that seems to help out at all. Post to let us know.
